Spitfire LF.XVI SM198 at Full Sutton airfield.

Said to have occurred during 1952 this photograph is said to have been taken at Full Sutton airfield and clearly shows the aircraft tipped on to it's nose. Looking up the history of SM198 it was with this No.103 Flying Refresher School from 29th August 1951, who were at Full Sutton. On paper it left them on 31st December 1952 when it went to No.2 C.A.A.C.U. but 103 F.R.S. was wound up by the end of 1951 and became part of 207 Advanced Flying School that formed there. Most of their propeller aircraft left in late 1951 but a few were retained by the new unit. The last Spitfire left in June 1952.
