On 21st May 1952 this No.14 Advanced Flying Training School aircraft suffered an engine fire during the approach to land at Holme on Spalding Moor airfield. The pilot attempted a forced landing but the airceaft overturned. The pilot sustained injuries but scrambled clear. The crashed aircraft is shown in the photograph above and given the obvious damage as can be seen in the above photograph it is remarkable the eighteen year old pilot survived.
Pilot - P/O A W Mayes (probably P/O Alfred William Mayes RAF (2528620)).
