Tiger Moth DH.82A G-AITE at Speeton.

On 15th August 1952 this civilian registered aircraft appears to have received extensive damage in some form of mishap at Speeton aerodrome. The aircraft was a former RAF aircraft and carried the identity DE132 but was sold off to the civilian market and registered as G-AITE. It was initially registered to Ray Lockwood and operated from Speeton between 1946 and 1948, then went to Desmond Heaton between 1949 and 1950 who operated from Brough. It then returned to Speeton on 18th April 1952 when the ownership charged to East Riding Flying Club (Speeton) Ltd. The club listed it as destroyed in September 1952.

Searching the available newspapers on the British Newspaper Archives nothing obvious come up for the incident that may have damaged it in August or September 1952, I conclude from this that the damage probably occurred on the aerodrome site at Speeton and would probably not be known of publically at the time.
