On the evening of 29th May 1952 two 609 Squadron Meteors were being flown on an aerobatics training exercise with the squadron's aerobatic team, prior to a display being held on 2nd June 1952 at Yeadon. During the training exercise two of the Meteors collided. An engine cowling of one struck the aileron of the other but both pilots appear to have regained control and landed safely at Church Fenton airfield. One landed with the aileron controls jammed.
