On 31st August 1951 this 228 Operational Conversion Unit aircraft was being flown at 30,000 feet when the canopy broke off in flight. As it detached it struck the starboard mainplane and the rear fuselage but the pilot was able to remain in control and made a somewhat drafty landing back at Leeming airfield.
