On 10th December 1951 this 66 Squadron aircraft was flown on an air to ground gunnery exercise. It was struck by a cannon shell that ricocheted off either the target or the ground on a gunnery range and a hole was created in the centre section of the main spar. Despite the damage the pilot landed normally. It was several months until the aircraft was passed as servicable by 60 MU.
