The 60 Maintenance Unit record book (air29/2039) lists all the aeroplanes that they were tasked with making servicable. For this aircraft it states that it was ready during the month of September 1951 and they repaired it at Thornaby. At the time Vampire WA420 was on charge with No.607 Squadron and based at Ouston. It presumably had a damage assessment made against it earlier in 1951 or perhaps in 1950 but when this was is not known. How it came to require a repair is not yet clear and this may not have been down to any flying related incident. The 607 Squadron records state the squadron did flying training in Vampires at Thornaby earlier in the year.
