On 3rd October 1951 six aircraft of 611 Squadron took part in the third phase of Operation Pinnacle, during the exercise a panel from the nose of this aircraft blew off in flight. The pilot landed safely at Church Fenton where the squadron had use of for the exercise. 611 Squadron were normally based at Hooton Park but were detached to Church Fenton during late September and early October 1951 for ground controlled approach and night flying training was undertaken. As Operation Pinnacle took place during their time at Church Fenton they operated from there. The squadron orb had earlier stated that when the "new" Meteors arrived on the squadron they were far from new and that "in fact extremely old and falling to pieces". They were right.
