Meteor F.4 VW271 at Neasham airfield.

On 27th November 1951 this 205 Advanced Flying School aircraft undershot a landing at Neasham airfield and struck a telegraph pole. The aircraft received damage to the port undercarriage but it was later repaired. The unit was based at Middleton St.George but had the use of Neasham airfield as a relief landing ground, this was the airfield previously known as Croft.

Pilot - F/O Jan Bernard Marinus Haye RAF (142599).


This officer had previously served in Bomber Command during the Second World War with 57 Squadron. On 14th May 1943 he was flying Lancaster ED667 that was shot down on Ops to Plzen. He managed to evade capture and return to the UK. He was undertaking pilot refresher training at the time of this accident in November 1951.
