611 Squadron were normally based at Hooton Park but were detached to Church Fenton during late September and early October 1951 for ground controlled approach and night flying training was undertaken. On 27th September 1951 the 611 Squadron records suggest that two aircraft were damaged. One appears to have been Meteor VT104 which undershot a night landing at Church Fenton airfield and struck a hedge. After this night flying was prohibited until the approach lighting was modified.
