On 8th January 1951 this 41 Squadron aircraft was flown on a high altitude training flight and while making an approach to land he undershot a night landing at Linton on Ouse airfield. The aircraft struck a runway lighting pole, then crashed and was further damaged by fire. It was thought possible that the pilot had been affected by the effects of fumes entering the cockpit on the approach which had affected his ability to fly.
Pilot - F/Lt J M Gilchrist (probably F/Lt John Maxwell Gilchrist MBE RAF (119731)).
