On Saturday, 15th September 1951 this aircraft was being flown by an ATC cadet when it crashed on landing at Sherburn in Elmet airfield. The pilot was injured and was taken to hospital in Leeds for treatment. G-AIEL was owned by The Yorkshire Aeroplane Club, based at Sherburn. The incident was reported on in local newspapers and the pilot later stated the crash occurred as a result of the bottom wing falling off. He later joined the RAF before emigrating to Australia.
