Unidentified Vampire F.1 damaged in the air, landed at Driffield airfield.

For the date 20th January 1951 the 203 Advanced Flying School record book lists that a Vampire aircraft was flown on a formation flying exercise made by a student pilot. After landing it was found that the tail had been damaged. A fuel tank cap cover plate had torn loose in flight and was missing. It was believed that the plate had struck the tail as it fell away. Disciplinary action was taken against the member of groundcrew who should have secured the cover plate properly.
