Vampire FB.5 VZ147 damaged in the air, (probably) landed at Driffield airfield.

On 19th September 1950 a formation flying exercise with three aircraft of No.203 Advanced Flying School took place. Leading the formation was an instructor in Meteor VW416 and two student pilots followed and formated on him. During the exercise and owing to inexperience, one of the students who was flying Vampire VZ147 got too close to the lead aircraft and they collided. The port wing of the Vampire received minor damage and the tail of the Meteor was also damaged. The Meteor pilot initially lost control but later regained control and then all the aircraft went on to make safe landings. The landings probably occurred at Driffield airfield where the unit was based although it also used Carnaby airfield as a relief landing ground. The aircraft had a Cat.2 damage assessment made against it.
