Meteor F.4 VT261 near Alne.

On 16th January 1950 the pilot of this No.92 Squadron aircraft was undertaking a night training exerise which appears to have involved practicing flying on just one engine and then practicing making single engine landings followed by flying overshoots. After flying one overshoot the aircraft appears to have initially climbed away but then lost height and flew into ground two miles north of the airfield, near Alne brickworks. The aircraft was badly damaged and the pilot was seriously injured but was back flying the following month.
