Meteor F.4 VT176 at Carnaby airfield.

On Friday, 24th March 1950 the pilot of this No.203 Advanced Flying School aircraft was carrying out a single engine circuits and landing exercise at carnaby airfield but on one of the landings he made a heavy landing. An undercarriage leg collapsed. The unit was based at Driffield but used Carnaby as a relief landing ground for flying training exercises.

The aircraft had been previously damaged on 10th September 1949 when it overshot on landing at Carnaby. It was repaired following that and this incident on 24th March 1950 but later crashed 21st May 1952 a mile north of Driffield and killed the then pilot.
