Hornet F.3 PX398 at Leeming airfield.

On 9th February 1950 this 65 Squadron aircraft suffered the port engine fail during a flight over Northern England. In reduced visibility the pilot attempted a single engine landing at Leeming airfield but without the use of the aircraft flaps to slow it. The aircraft overshot the runway at Leeming and crashed.

Pilot - P.2 A Wood RAF.

This pilot was posted in to 65 Squadron during December 1949. He was involved in another Hornet crash on 4th September 1950 at Linton on Ouse. He later left in January 1952 to take up flying instructor duties at the Central Flying School. I have not yet been able to fully identify him.
