On 14th October 1950 and during the week preceeding the RAF carried out a large scale exercise namd "Operation Emporer" to simulate the attack of the country by a hostile nation. On 14th October 1950 19 Squadron were taking part in a low level simulated attack on Stradishall airfield when the flight was intercepted by a flight of Meteors from a different unit. The close proximity of the other aircraft to Hornet PX338 caused the pilot to briefly lose control when the aircraft flew through the slipstream. He regained control but not before the Hornet clipped the tops of some trees. Minor damage was caused to both wing leading edges and the radiators. He was escorted back to base (probably all the way to Church Fenton) by another pilot. The damage was initially assessed as being Cat.3R damage but this was later upgraded to Re.Cat.4R and it was taken to DeHavilland Ltd. for a repair in works on 11th December 1950.
Pilot - P.2 W A Moxon.
