Spitfire F.22 PK653 near Marton le Moor.

This aircraft was on charge with 608 Squadron who were based at Thornaby. On 25th March 1950 this aircraft was being flown on a cross country training exercise and was near Dishforth airfield when it collided with a wooden radio beacon mast that was 200 yards east of Marton le Moor. The pilot crash landed in a field between Marton le Moor and Dishforth airfield but the damaged aircraft caught fire. The pilot survived.
