On 13th April 1950 this No.228 Operational Conversion Unit was being flown on a training exercise in the Leeming area when it suffered the port engine fail owing to a coolant leak. The pilot feathered the faulty engine and was able to get the aircraft back to Leeming but the port undercarriage leg would not lock down so that it then collapsed during the resulting single engine landing at Leeming.
