On 31st August 1950 two unidentified Vampires of No.203 Advanced Flying School were flown solo by student pilots on a formation flying exercise. On their final run over the airfield the wing tip of the No.3 aircraft came into contact with the port main plane of the No.2 aircraft. Both aircraft went on to land without further incident. Blame was attributed to the pilot of No.2 aircraft for getting out of position. The incident probably occurred over Carnaby airfield because Driffield airfield was undergoing runway resurfacing when this incident occurred and was close to all aircraft. The 203 AFS record book scribe did a poor job of recording their flying accidents around this time in respect of identifying the aircraft involved and where each incident occurred.
Pilot - Name unknown.
