Unidentified Vampire Mk.I damaged in the air, (possibly) landed at Driffield airfield.

On 11th May 1950 this No.203 Advanced Flying School aircraft was being flown by a student pilot undertaking a familiarisation flight using long range tanks. While flying at 32,000 feet a loud bang was heard in the cockpit and the cockpit perspex fractured. The pilot descended and made a swift but noisy landing but owing to the height at which the aircraft was flying it could realistically have been anywhere. The unit was based at Driffield airfield although it also used Carnaby airfield as a relief landing ground. The 203 AFS record book scribe did a poor job of recording their flying accidents around this time in respect of identifying the aircraft involved and where each incident occurred. More information is required.
