Spitfire LF.XVI TD132 near Finningley airfield.

On 21st February 1949 an instructor of No.1 (Pilots) Refresher Flying Unit aircraft undertook on a local flying exercise around the general Finningley area where the unit was based. During the flight the pilot experienced problems with the electrical system. Later in the flight the engine caught fire in the circuit of Finningley airfield and smoke and fumes entered the cockpit. The pilot made a crash landing while on the approach to land but exactly where is not known. The unit record book states it was just short of the runwa. The pilot may have sustained minor injuries. The aircraft was damaged and enough to see it written off.
