Unidentified Meteor T.7 damaged in the air, landed at Driffield airfield.
On Tuesday, 8th November 1949 the crew in this this No.203 Advanced Flying School Meteor are believed to have been on a training flight from Driffield airfield over the Scarborough area when the aircraft clipped a powerline south of Filey at 12.06hrs wiping out power to Filey, Scarborough and Bridlington. The aircraft did not crash and returned to Driffield airfield where it made a good landing. Newspapers quote the voltage as being from 66,000 Volts per wire. Electricty was cut off to a large part of the district for several hours. The aeroplane received minor damage to both lower and upper surfaces after contact with cables on both surfaces.
