Spitfire LF.XVI TE480 at Leconfield airfield.

On 6th April 1948 the undercarriage of this Central Gunnery School aircraft would not lower as the pilot made an approach to land at Leconfield airfield following a training exercise. The pilot then went on to belly land on the aircraft and it sustained damage. A repair may have been carried out even though it was sold as scrap in October 1949 with no later damage assessment made, but being sat in a damaged state at Leconfield for eighteen months seems too great a period of time.
