Mosquito FB.VI TA531 at Driffield airfield.

On 20th August 1948 this No.204 Advanced Flying School aircraft was flown on a single engine flying training exercise that included practicing single engine landings at Driffield airfield. Late in the approach to land the pilot attempted to abandon the landing and fly an overshoot but he left the flaps fully extended where they had been set for landing. Flying on just one engine the additional drag with the flaps extended caused the speed to fall below that needed to fly causing the pilot to make a forced landing on the airfield. The undercarriage may have collapsed, or had already been retracted as the damage appears to have been that severe it was immediately struck off charge with Cat.E/FA damage on the same date.
