Mosquito FB.6 TA503 at Leeming airfield.

This No.228 Operational Conversion Unit aircraft had had a Cat.B damage assessment made against it on 10th November 1947 which appears to have been through general use and stress rather than accident damage. A repair on site in a hanger was begun by No.58 M.U. at Leeming but on 29th January 1948 it caught fire in a hanger while being repaired. An area of repair on the aircraft had been glued and electric bulbs were lit with the general area shrouded by hessian sacks to try and provide warmth to dry the glue in a cold hanger. The sacks touched the bulbs and a fire developed. The damage that resulted saw it written off. Wellington ND107 also caught fire in a hanger at Leeming on this date but both incidents are believed unconnected.

Unoccupied.
