Mosquito FB.VI RS654 near Danby Wiske.
Exact details around this incident are lacking. On 25th February 1948 this No.228 Operational Conversion Unit aircraft appears to have been flown on a training exercise that involved the pilot shutting down an engine to practice flying on just one engine. When it came to unfeathering the propeller on the dead engine this was not possible. The port engine then oversped. The pilot made a forced landing in a field of spring wheat at Wiske Moor Farm, between Danby Wiske and Northallerton. The aircraft appears to have been slightly damaged in a ground accident on 26th August 1946 as the aircraft's AM Form 78 gives a Cat.A/GA damage assessment on this date. A repair on site must have been carried out. As a result of the crash on 25th February 1948 Cat.E/FA was the assessment and it was struck off charge.
