Hornet F.3 PX397 at Church Fenton airfield.
On 23rd September 1948 the pilot of this 41 Squadron aircraft was attempting to land at Church Fenton airfield and had successfully flown two approaches followed by two overshoots to fly a circuit to attempt a further landing. On the third attempt to land the aircraft touched down too far along the runway so that there was not enough runway left to stop on. The pilot raised the undercarriage when it became apparent the aircraft would run off the airfield but it still ran into a ditch and tipped up on it's nose.
