Lancaster B.1 PA451 near Crowle, Lincolnshire?
If the direction and distance is correct then this incident may well be in Lincolnshire and not Yorkshire but I will include it and search for more information. During the night of 10th November 1948 this No.230 Operational Conversion Unit aircraft was being flown on a training exercise by a pilot who had been a prisoner of war for a long period during the Second World War, who had just returned to flying duties and who was out of practice at flying at night and on instruments. The aircraft was on the approach to land at base at Lindholme but the pilot appears to have simply flown into the ground some five miles short of the runway. The location given is five miles north-east of Lindholme which would put it just west of Crowle village. Cat.E/FA damage was the damage assessment and it was struck off charge on 11th November 1948.
Pilot - Name unknown.
