Lancaster B.VII PA442 at Lindholme airfield.

On 1st July 1948 this No.230 Operational Conversion Unit was flown on a training exercise that involved the trainee pilot deliberately shutting down one engines to practice flying and landing on three engines. On the approach to land at Lindholme airfield he forgot to lower the undercarriage. A radio warning was given by ground controllers and also a red warning light flashed to warn the pilot. At the last moment the instructor took control and attempted to fly an overshoot but the aircraft continued to lose height and he was left to belly land on grass on the airfield boundary. Cat.E/FA damage was the damage assessment and it was struck off charge a couple of weeks later.
