Harvard T.2B FX271 at Finningley airfield.
Prior to this incident this No.1 (Pilots) Refresher Flying Unit aircraft had had a re-fit and maintenance carried out on the fuel system. On 23rd March 1948 it was due to be test flown following the completion of this work but just after the aircraft became airborne at Finningley the engine cut out. The pilot immediately made a force landing with the wheels retracted either at the end of the runway or just beyond it and the aircraft was badly damaged. It was later found that a fuel pipe had been twisted during the maintenance work and this had restructed the fuel supply.
Pilot - F/O Peter Douglas Crowden-Longstreath RAFVR (184017).
