Mosquito NF.19 TA341 at Yeadon airfield.
At 15.20hrs on 1st June 1947 during flying training this 609 Squadron landed at Yeadon airfield but was too far down the runway when it touched down. The pilot braked hard and eventually the starboard brake jammed as it overheated, this caused the aircraft to swing to starboard and it left the runway onto rough ground where the undercarriage collapsed. The tail may also have struck something prior to coming to a halt. The damage was later assessed and the aircraft was initially deemed repairable but a month later was re-assessed and written off.
Pilot - P/O J Viles (Possibly P/O John Ernest Viles RAF (91286)).
Navigator - F/Lt W D Bradley RAF.
