Mosquito XXX NT512 near Kirkby Fleetham.
During the morning of Saturday, 25th January 1947 this No.54 Operational Training Unit aircraft was being test flown following work carried out to rectify defects found the previous day to the port engine discovered during flying. Alongside the pilot on this test flight was a fitter who was flying to check the repair work. After taking off from Leeming one engine cut out and the aeroplane lost height, it flew into tree tops near Kirkby Fleetham Hall and crashed in a field soon after. Both men in the aeroplane were killed.
