Avro York C.1 MW223 at Dishforth airfield.
On 2nd September 1947 this No.1332 Heavy Transport Conversion Unit was flown on a training flight and landed normally at Dishforth airfield. After landing, a previous leaking oil pipe began to drop hot oil onto the port inner engine which ignited. The fire could not be brought under control before it badly damaged the aircraft. The crew appear to have escaped injury. Those listed below are names I have located elsewhere but have no confirmation from source records of this.
Pilot - F/Lt W F Young
Second Pilot - F/O W J H Roberts (probably F/O Wynne John Humphrey Roberts RAF (179707)).
Flight Engineer - 2A A W Glass.
Wireless Operator - S2B A D S Matheson.
Navigator - Nav2 W G Fricker.
