Ground accident at Leconfield airfield.
On Saturday, 20th September 1947 a Battle of Britain "At Home" day was ran at Leconfield airfield which saw the airfield open to the public and involved various flying displays. No.152 (City of Hull) Squadron ATC attended and undertook glider flying with No.25 Elementary Gliding School with cadets being in attendance and probably flying them. After the last glider flight of the day the commanding officer of the ATC squadron asked that the boys washed the gliders and they be flown to nearer to the hanger for storage. A tractor was used to winch and tow gliders around the airfield. Unfortunately there was a tragic accident while cadets were helping to detach a winch the commanding officer moved the tractor clear of the gliders, a cadet's foot caught in the wheel tread of the tractor. He was crushed under the wheel of the tractor and died of multiple injuries. No.25 Gliding School was formed at Leconfield in September 1943 and was equiped with Slingsby Cadet TX.1 gliders, it disbanded in late-1947.
