Spitfire LF.IX PT548 at Church Fenton airfield.

On 20th August 1946 this 257 Squadron landed at Church Fenton airfield with the undercarriage retracted. The incident appears to have been purely down to pilot error, the pilot was grounded pending an investigation. A damage assessment was made and it appears that it was initially deemed repairable but it was subsequently struck off charge in October 1946 so probably was never completed.
