Mosquito NF.XXX NT263 at Full Sutton airfield.

On 5th February 1946 this No.54 Operational Training Unit aircraft was being flown on a flying exercise that involved the pilot deliberately shutting down one engine and flying on just one. During the flight it appears that the port engine then failed while the starboard engine was shut down. Unable to restart the starboard engine the pilot made a forced landing on Full Sutton airfield, which was by this date not an operational airfield. Pretty severe damage to the aircraft resulted and Cat.E/FA damage was the assessment that saw it written off.

Pilot (instructor) - S/Ldr Basil Anthony Primavesi RAF (42525).

Pilot (pupil) - Name unknown.

S/Ldr Primavesi appears to have been the Chief Flying Instructor of 54 O.T.U. at the time. He was later posted to 617 Squadron and became their Commanding Officer.
