Spitfire F.21 LA219 at Hutton Cranswick airfield.

On 1st April 1946 this No.1 Squadron was flown to give the pilot experience on flying the aircraft type, he had recently been posted in to the squadron from 129 Squadron. Unfortunately the flaps appear to have failed which saw the pilot attempt a flapless landing at Hutton Cranswick airfield. The aircraft landed too fast and over ran into hedge which caused the aircraft to overturn. The squadron records make mention of this incident, the fact that the aircraft had a contrarotating propeller and that the annoying thing was that replacement would be different.

Pilot - W/O Ross.
