Halifax RG538 damaged in the air, landed at Carnaby airfield.

The Carnaby airfield record book states that between 12.26hrs and 13.20hrs on 25th March 1945 some 26 Halifaxes were diverted to land at Carnaby airfield, two of which had been damaged by enemy action. One that landed at Carnaby with damage was this aircraft.

During the morning of 25th March 1945 the crew of this 77 Squadron aircraft flew an operational flight to bomb Osnabruck and took off from Full Sutton at 06.55hrs. The crew released their bombs onto the target from 15,000 feet at 10.03hrs but it was struck by flak which damaged the hydraulic system. The aircraft landed at Carnaby at 12.45hrs.
