Lancaster R5730 at Lindholme airfield.
On 15th March 1945 the crew of this 1656 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft were undertaking a dual circuits and landings training flight. On landing at Lindholme at 20.42hrs following a seven minute flight the starboard main tyre burst, this caused the starboard undercarriage leg to collapse before it could be brought to a halt and once that leg collapsed the aircraft swung causing the port undercarriage leg to also collapse. The aircraft came to rest in the area around the north-eastern side of the airfield. In April 1945 the trainee pilot was posted to 550 Squadron probably with his crew who were with him when this mishap occurred at Lindholme.
