Halifax PN181 damaged by flak, landed at Driffield airfield.
During the 27th February 1945 this 466 Squadron aircraft undertook a daylight operational flight to bomb a target at Mainz. The aircraft took off from Driffield at 13.04hrs and released their bombload from 16,500 feet at 16.37hrs. While over the target area this aircraft was struck by flak and received damage to the leading edge of the tail plane. Three 466 Squadron crews later reported that higher flying aircraft released their bombs immediately above their aircraft and endangered them unnecessarily. Although damaged the crew were able to fly the aircraft back to Driffield where they landed at 19.52hrs.
