Halifax NR184 damaged in the air, landed at Carnaby airfield.
The Carnaby airfield record book states that on 27th February 1945 three Halifaxes landed, all having received damage through enemy action. One of these aircraft would have been Halifax NR184 of 78 Squadron.
It took off from base of Breighton at 13.23hrs with the crew tasked with bombing Mainz. They released their bombload onto the target at 16.47hrs from 18,000 feet and while over the target the aircraft was damaged
by flak which broke the second pilot's front windscreen panel. Despite the damage the crew flew back to Yorkshire but landed at Carnaby at 19.55hrs.
