Halifax NR141 damaged in the air, landed at Tholthorpe airfield.
On 27th February 1945 this 420 Squadron aircraft was flown on an operational flight to bomb Mainz and took off from Tholthorpe airfield at 12.57hrs. The crew released their bomb load over teh target from 16,000 feet at 16.31hrs. While over the target the aircraft was struck on the port wing by bombs dropped by a higher flying aircraft and seven feet of the wing was broken off. Despite the damage the crew remained in control and the aircraft was flown back to Tholthorpe landing at 19.51hrs. Unfortunately the 420 Squadron orb scribe only listed pilots on operational sorties around this date so the exact crew list is unconfirmed.
Pilot - F/Lt Hugh Robert Ledingham RCAF (J/12266).
