Halifax NR139 damaged in the air, landed at Carnaby airfield.

The Carnaby airfield record book states that between 12.26hrs and 13.20hrs on 25th March 1945 some 26 Halifaxes were diverted to land at Carnaby airfield, two of which had been damaged by enemy action. One that landed at Carnaby with damage was this aircraft.

During the morning of 25th March 1945 the crew of this 420 Squadron aircraft took off at 07.12hrs from Tholthorpe to bomb Munster. They released the bomb load onto the target from 18,700 feet at 10.15hrs and while over the target the aircraft was damaged by flak with damage to the port inner engine cowling, a port fuel tank and the rear fuselage. On their return they landed at Carnaby airfield at 13.03hrs. It cannot have been seriously damaged as it was flown back to Tholthorpe later that day.
