Halifax NR123 at Carnaby airfield.
During the evening of 10th March 1945 this 420 Squadron aircraft was flown on a training flight. Why the aircraft went on to land at Carnaby and not return to the crew's home base of Tholthorpe is not known. After landing at Carnaby at 23.28hrs the aircraft began to swing to starboard. The aircraft's brakes failed and although the concrete landing strip was very wide at Carnaby the aircraft ran off the concrete and struck trees. The aircraft sustained serious damage and was later written off.
Pilot - F/O N Toderan (J/42469). (probably Nicholas Toderan).
