Halifax NP989 at Driffield airfield.
During the evening of 1st January 1945 this 466 Squadron aircraft undertook an operational flight to bomb a coling plant in Dortmund. They took off from Driffield airfield at 16.32hrs and released their bombs at 19.20hrs from 18,000 feet. On their return to Driffield the pilot mistook the green colour of high intensity lighting for the green coloured glide path indicator and made the landing short, the aircraft undershot, struck telephone wires and perimeter track fence. The aircraft was slightly damaged and the bomb aimer received minor injuries.
