Halifax NP976 damaged on Ops, landed at Driffield airfield.

On 11th April 1945 the crew of this 466 Squadron aircraft undertook an operational flight to bomb Nuremburg, they took off from Driffield airfield at 11.05hrs and bombed the target area from 17,000 feet at 15.03hrs. This aircraft appears to have been one of five 466 Squadron aircraft damaged during the course of the raid. This crew were able to return to Driffield and landed at 18.48hrs. The squadron orb mentions five aircraft were damaged but does not state which ones. I have only created a webpage for this aircraft when there should be four others as well but without any information it seems pointless at the moment.

Pilot - S/Ldr Jack Harben Cameron DFC RAAF (411284).

Bomb Aimer - F/Lt Neville Olsberg RAFVR (134719).

Navigator - F/Lt Russel Hayden Maury RAFVR (132803).

Wireless Operator / Air Gunner - Sgt C F Marshall RAFVR (1034668).

Air Gunner - WO Mervyn John Coleman RAAF (436070).

Air Gunner - Sgt R P Hunter RAFVR (1598167).

Flight Engineer - F/O Robert Blair DFM RAFVR (175857).

On 17th June 1944 Mervyn Coleman was the sole survivor of the crash to 10 Squadron Halifax LV825 near Rawcliffe on Aire. This incident I have detailed on it's own webpage.

Robert Blair was awarded the DFM for earlier service with 90 Squadron in 1943.

Sgt Marshall had earlier served with 158 Squadron.

Jack Cameron had already flown one Tour with 466 Squadron for which he had been awarded the DFC in November 1943. He died in March 2017.
