Halifax NP772 at Linton on Ouse airfield.
On the night of 8th / 9th March 1945 this 408 Squadron aircraft was flown on an operational flight to bomb Hamburg and took off from Linton on Ouse airfield at 18.13hrs. The crew released their bomb load over the target area from 19,000 feet at 21.32hrs. On landing at Linton on Ouse airfield at 00.48hrs the tail wheel shimmed and then broke off. The aircraft came to rest with minor damage to the tail. A strengthening modification to the tail wheel assembly had not yet been made to this aircraft. Unfortunately the 408 Squadron orb does not list operational sorties with full crews during March 1945 so their names remain unconfirmed.
