Halifax NP756 at Linton on Ouse airfield.
On the night of 14th January 1945 this 408 Squadron aircraft was flown on an operational flight to bomb Grevenbroich, Germany and took off from Linton on Ouse at 16.01hrs. The crew released their bomb load on the target area from 18,000 feet at 19.37hrs and made the return flight to Yorkshire. The aircraft landed normally at Linton on Ouse at 23.02hrs but before it managed to taxi back to a dispersal point the tail wheel assembly broke. Annoyingly the 408 Squadron scribe chooses January 1945 to only list pilots on operational sorties instead of full crews, presumably as there was a war on he decided he needed to save on ink.
Pilot - F/Lt William John Smith RCAF (J/10553).
